Montenegro Shipping Expands

The government implementation of the RoRo (roll-on roll-off) transportation infrastructure has prompted a Batangas based shipping company to aggresively enter the Visayas and Mindanao market using Cebu as its hub.

Montenegro Shipping Lines Inc. (MSLI) had its maiden voyage with its Cebu-Iloilo route yesterday (June 6) with confidence that there is still a good market for both passengers and cargoes, despite the strong competition with the airline companies.

The Cebu-Iloilo route will also bring passengers going to Puerto Princesa, Palawan. "The RoRo vessels still are cheaper, airlines can't compete with us" said Aries G. Patolot, MSLI officer-in-charge for marketing.

According  to Patolot, the company has seen a good potential for its expansion in the Southern Philippine market, as it has serve as the center that MSLI can easily link with different destinations.

In the next few months, the MSLI is going to open other commercial routes providing options for passengers going to Tagbilaran, Bohol and Cagayan de Oro City, from Cebu, a Cebu-Tubigon (Bohol) route will also be opened, as well as Cebu-Surigao via Maasin (Southern Leyte) route.

The shipping line, is capitalizing on its strong network with bus companies as a RoRo vessel, said MSLI national operations manager Joker Suwelto.
